Civil
Design
Summit Engineering Corporation currently has approximately 20 professional engineers
with registrations in Nevada, California, Arizona, Washington, Idaho, Oregon
and New Mexico. The technical support for professional engineers consists
of some 40 design and computer technicians.
The following are the major areas where the Civil Engineering Department
has been involved:
Residential
Summit Engineering Corporation's involvement has been comprehensive from inception/conception through design
to construction of over 35,000 planned residential units. The utilization
of advanced design technology has been the key element in Summit Engineering Corporation's ability
to keep up with the fast paced design and construction environment. The
entire engineering and design team of Summit Engineering Corporation is fully equipped and trained
in the use of AutoCAD and software generated in-house. The use of this
technology enables Summit Engineering Corporation to interact with other engineers and architects
on the project. The extent of Summit Engineering Corporation's experience in residential development
from conception to construction is best exemplified by the following projects:
Somersett
A 2,648 unit, 2,372 acre exclusive planned unit development located
in west Reno at the base of Peavine Mountain. Summit Engineering Corporation was involved
with the project from its conception, with the modifications to the master plan and the subsequent securing of all necessary governmental
approvals. This development consists of single-family residential
units, and commercial uses, as well as ancillary uses such as
golf courses, dams, town center, fire station, major off-site
improvements, and a trail system. This project was especially
unique because of the high standard for an overall aesthetically
pleasing development in all design aspects.
The Village at Idlewild
A 218 unit, 10 acre development located in Reno at the old water
treatment facility next to Reno High School. This development
consists of multi-family residential units constructed where the
treatment facility was. Summit Engineering Corporation has been involved with the project
from its beginning. The project was especially unique because
of the extensive demolition plan required to prepare the site
for construction.
Double Diamond Ranch
A 7,000 unit, 1,400 acre planned unit development located in the
southeast Truckee Meadows. This development consists of single
and multi-family residential units, commercial uses, as well as
ancillary uses such as schools, shopping center, fire station,
police station and an 18 hole championship golf course.
Northgate
A 3,000 acre project in the foothills of Northwest Reno. The project
consists of 5,000 single and multi-family residential units, schools,
parks, community facilities, a twenty-seven hole championship
golf course, and a 300 acre high tech industrial park. There are
approximately 3,000 units completed and occupied in the Northgate
area.
Estates at Mount Rose
The Estates at Mt. Rose is a 604 acre project located at the intersection of Callahan Road and the Mt. Rose Highway. The portion of the project that is on the south side of the Mt. Rose Highway contains 160 residential lots that start at 1 acre in size. The portion of the project on the north side of the Mt. Rose Highway contains 82 residential lots that start at 2 acres in size.
Summit Engineering Corporation is providing planning, engineering design, and surveying services on this project. Summit has worked closely with the adjacent residences, and developers to develop this unique project. The design incorporates large commons areas and undeveloped portions of lots to create wild life habitat and migration corridors. Approximately 54 acres of open space that includes the active Whites Creek are being dedicated to the Washoe County Parks Department.
Airpark Estates
Airpark Estates is a +/- 87 acre project located in Dayton, Nevada, just south of the Dayton Valley Country Club and adjacent to the Dayton Valley Airstrip. Airpark Estates contains 121 custom and production residential sites. This is a unique project that offers home sites with airstrip access to each lot.
Summit Engineering Corporation is providing planning, engineering design, surveying, geotechnical and testing/inspection services on this project. The design of this project has incorporated FAA guidelines for the taxiways to each home site. Lakemont Homes of Nevada will be developing the production cost on this project.
The Lakes of Dayton Valley
The Lakes of Dayton Valley is a 711 acre PUD in Dayton, Nevada that is adjacent to the Dayton Valley Country Club. The project includes 2395 residential lots, a 9 hole golf course, a hotel/casino resort, a motor coach resort, multiple parks and trails and a school site.
Summit Engineering Corporation is providing engineering design, surveying and testing/inspection services on this project. This project will be developed by Lakemont Communities in multiple phases over the next decade.
Commercial and Industrial
Summit Engineering Corporation currently has numerous on-going projects in some state of
planning, design or construction. The nature of the design techniques
employed by Summit Engineering Corporation ensures the client of the most cost effective
results available anywhere. Through the implementation of state-of-the-art
computer systems and in-house computer software development specialists,
all avenues of design flexibility have been addressed and all methods
of checks and balances are employed to minimize the ever-present
possibility of costly errors.
McQueen Crossing
Has a total building area of 128,000 square feet on 15 acres located
in northwest Reno at the intersection of Robb Drive and Mae Anne
Avenue. Summit Engineering Corporation has been involved with the project from its conception
securing all the necessary governmental approvals. This development
consists of a Raley's grocery store, Nevada Security Bank, Papa
John's Pizza, Starbucks, and other similar shops that are yet
to be determined.
Park 2001
This project consists of several million square feet of commercial
and industrial construction located in southeast Reno, NV. Summit Engineering Corporation's
scope of work included development of the master plan and infrastructure
extensions and needs, and the design drawing to bring this project
to production. Several phases of this project have been completed
encompassing several hundred thousand square feet each. The total build
out is proposed to be approximately twelve years.
Ramada Express Hotel/Casino, Laughlin, NV
The project included site work and utility design for this 500-room
hotel/casino, along with construction surveying for the facility.
Chuckchansi Casino
Summit Engineering Corporation provided complete civil engineering design services on this approximate 400-acre Indian Casino project near Coarsegold, California. The site is situated in the western foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains east of Fresno, California and contains numerous native-American artifacts, which were included into the civil design of the project. Civil design also included an extensive and elaborate water system, which included two water treatment facilities; one for raw water to serve a 200-room hotel and casino, and one to treat wastewater for irrigation and fire protection purposes.
Utilities
With the ever increasing demand for utility expansions within the
major metropolitan areas of the country and the mandated desire
of the populace to preserve, in any way possible, our natural resources,
a delicate balance must be maintained while completing any resource-based
project. Summit Engineering Corporation has, over the past two decades,
designed and performed construction management services on numerous
utility infrastructure projects.
From preliminary needs analysis to the final construction
monitoring, Summit Engineering Corporation has the technical capabilities and the sophisticated
equipment required to complete these types of projects with equal
emphasis on cost effectiveness and the environment. Some of the
capabilities available include the specialized departments in-house
for water rights and hazardous waste studies. These departments
are staffed with the area's leading experts in their respective
fields. Some projects completed to date include minor water system
expansions and major sewer rehabilitation and expansion projects,
to consulting work on major power generating facilities and basin
resource analysis for various water importation projects.
Lawton-Verdi Sanitary Sewer Interceptor
This City of Reno and Washoe County, Nevada project will ultimately consist of approximately 15 miles of sanitary sewer interceptor construction, which will run from approximately West McCarran Boulevard to Gold Ranch, as well as Boomtown, will service the western expansion of the City of Reno. Large portions of the project were designed and constructed in environmentally sensitive areas, the Union Pacific Railroad right-of-way, the Nevada Department of Transportation right-of-way, and through private property.
Northgate Water Transmission Main
This project, completed by Summit Engineering Corporation several years ago, provided the
backbone water service for the newly expanding Northgate area in
northwestern Reno, Nevada. The project involved realignment, final
design, and construction services of a 22,000 foot water delivery
system ranging in size from 22 to 24 inches in diameter and included
three major booster facilities.
City of Sparks Downtown Sanitary Sewer Project
This City of Sparks, Nevada project consisted of studying the existing sanitary sewer patterns and sewer facilities in downtown Sparks, Nevada. The initial study provided information, which aided in planning, designing and/or upgrading the sanitary sewer facilities to handle increased sewer demands.
Transportation
With specialized expertise in the field of roadway design, Summit Engineering Corporation
can provide cost effective design for all facilities from mining
haul roads to major arterials. The current demand for the improvement
of ground based transportation facilities as well as construction
and reconstruction of major transportation related infrastructure
within the United States creates a need for the most technically
comprehensive, state of the art design techniques available in any
of our service areas. Current transportation related projects with
which Summit Engineering Corporation is associated are located from California to New Jersey.
Somersett Parkway
Civil design services were provided by Summit Engineering Corporation on this 9,900 lineal foot four-lane arterial roadway to the Somersett Development in Reno, Nevada. This grand entry to the Somersett Development was cut through a hill composed of granitic bedrock creating impressive 140 foot high 1:1 rock cut slopes.
Vista Blvd. Baring Blvd. to N. Los Altos
Summit Engineering Corporation provided civil engineering design services for the Washoe County Regional Transportation Commission on this approximate 2 mile section of arterial roadway in Sparks, Nevada. The project consisted of widening the existing roadway, drainage improvements, and a keystone wall along the roadway from Baring Boulevard to North Los Altos Parkway.
City of Reno Special Assessment District No. 1, Mae Anne
Avenue, Robb Drive, Beaumont Parkway, Peavine Mountain Parkway
This project required the design and construction engineering
for this special assessment district project in the McQueen area
of northwest Reno. The project included over two miles of arterial
roadway improvements, including sanitary sewer and storm drain
extensions. Complete bid documents were provided by Summit Engineering Corporation to
the City of Reno. Summit Engineering Corporation's Geotechnical Division provided the
geotechnical investigation, completed field inspection, and field
and laboratory testing of all material during construction.
McCarran Boulevard - Southwest Quadrant, Skyline Boulevard
to Mayberry Drive, Reno
Summit Engineering Corporation was responsible for the design of approximately three miles
of arterial roadway improvements with related drainage facilities.
The roadway alignment extends into the Mount Rose foothills which
is some of the most difficult terrain traversed by McCarran Boulevard.
Overall, Summit Engineering Corporation was responsible for geotechnical analysis, roadway
and drainage design, improvement plan preparation, specifications,
bid documents, and cost estimates. Summit Engineering Corporation was also responsible
for providing all construction surveying, testing and inspection
for the first phase of this project from Plumb Lane to Mayberry
Drive.
Sparks Downtown Development
Design, construction staking, traffic engineering, and contract
documents were provided for the redesign of Victorian Avenue from
10th to 14th Street. Victorian Avenue, the main street in Sparks,
was reduced from 2-way, 4-lane traffic flow to 2-lane traffic
flow in order to create a pedestrian mall. The project included
the design, coordination of all existing facilities, and realignment
of utilities within one of the oldest areas of Sparks. Summit Engineering Corporation's
Geotechnical Division was responsible for the geotechnical investigation
and pavement design.
Access Roadway for Cave Lake State Park, Ely, Nevada
This project consisted of upgrading an existing 3,500 lineal foot
dirt roadway. Improvements included new drainage structures, aggregate
base and asphalt pavement. Summit Engineering Corporation was responsible for topographic
survey, roadway and drainage design, improvement plan preparation,
contract documents and specifications.
Longley Lane
Summit Engineering Corporation provided the civil engineering design service for the Washoe County Regional Transportation Commission on this approximate 1.5 mile section of the arterial roadway in Reno, Nevada. The project consisted of obtaining right-of-way from adjacent landowners, widening the existing roadway, drainage improvements, and relocating overhead utilities along this section of roadway from South McCarran Boulevard to South Virginia Street.
