Mine Activities
Somersett Development, Reno, Nevada – Summit Engineering Corporation’s staff directed mining activities at the primary pit for structural fill material on the Somersett operation, directing the excavation and blending of more than one million cubic yards of structural fill.
Round Mountain Mine, Big Smoky Valley, Nevada – Summit Engineering Corporation performed quality control inspections for Ames Construction during leach pad construction and tailings dam construction. Summit Engineering Corporation provided an on-site laboratory to complete soils analysis for the leach pad construction during the earlier phases of development at this Echo Bay operation.
Barrick Goldstrike Mine – Summit Engineering Corporation provided geotechnical design services for various phases of development at the Goldstrike Mine in Eureka County, Nevada. Soils and foundation investigations were performed for Barrick Goldstrike’s mill facility, autoclave facility, primary and secondary crushing facility, truck shop, warehouse, light vehicle wash, truck wash, administration building, and water treatment facility, as well as corresponding geotechnical reports. During construction of these facilities, Summit Engineering Corporation provided quality assurance, quality control, construction inspection and testing, and materials testing. A testing laboratory was set up at the mine site to perform the required materials testing, and to provide quick turn around on materials testing, including testing concrete cylinders for compressive strength, sieve analysis, Atterberg limits, and moisture density relationship testing.
Mule Canyon – Summit Engineering Corporation provided civil engineering design services for Santa Fe Pacific Gold for their Mule Canyon project in Lander County, Nevada. Civil design services included photogrammetric mapping, a geotechnical investigation, and civil design of a 36-foot wide, 14-mile access road with 4-foot shoulders. The haul road ran from the Interstate 80 frontage road near the Argenta exit, over the north end of the Shoshone Range to the mine site. The haul road was used to haul oxidized ore to another Santa Fe facility, Twin Creeks, along the Interstate 80 corridor for gold extraction processes.
